Works wonders! The small games advertised were available for a past firmware. In the current one, the developer decompiled them and only left the code so you have to compile them yourself in order to save space for future amiibos and updates. I’ve seen complaints about the knob but to me, even though it’s a bit iffy to use, it still feels quite sturdy. Also, the charge is crazy, i have had it for more than a month and it hasn’t even dropped a line of battery.

Some QR codes come with the videos, the one for updating is incorrect, but it’s in the fourth one anyway. By going to solosky / pixl.js on GitHub, you have it explained. The current release is version 2. 15. 0 which is from December 2025, I updated from the 14th that came and without any problem (it decompresses and then the OTA one through the web (there is also the nRF Connect app) the OTA file is selected (that one without decompressing, directly the zip) after putting it in DFU mode, it’s possible that you may need several attempts if the Bluetooth gets interference) in short, it’s quite simple. A luxury of junk, you have like 10k in amiibos on you XD

I did have some issues when trying to update the firmware with my regular setup (ubuntu, with an external bluetooth dongle, so not built-in). I wasn’t able to properly establish a connection with the emulator, but i’m assuming this wasn’t necessarily the emulator’s fault. Because my update attempt on a windows laptop (with built-in bluetooth) went flawlessly.
And for those who don’t yet know: pixl.js on github is the place to go when you need firmware updates.

Very pleased with the nfc emulator. It works well and is intuitive to use! It is quite small and light (imagine stacking 3 or 4 switch cartridges on top of each other) and arrived with battery. Comes with 1875 kb of user storage, which should be plenty. (it is preloaded with data that does not take up user storage).
For android users, the easiest way to update the firmware and upload your own nfc tags, download the nrf device firmware update (dfu) and mtools ble apps. The firmware is pixl js oled on github. Extract the zip you download. There will be a zip file inside the folder, with “ota” in the name. Do not extract the contents of that file, just upload it as a zip file.
Mtools ble also has a tutorial for uploading your own nfc tags to the pixl is oled (this item). You can use tagmo to clone the ones you own, and upload the bin file.

August 2025, order received in 5 days to Spain. I received it with version 2.13.0, I see that this version is the one published on GitHub Pixl. I am using it on Switch 2 and no issues with the games Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario + Rabbids. The NFC works wonderfully, it detects it immediately. The amiibo are in the second option of the main menu.

I don’t have the space at home for real amiibo figures, but this helps. This particular device arrived on software version 2.14.0, but i was able to update it to 2.16.0 (current version as of the time i posted this review) following the instructions i found on the pixl js github page.

Decent and cheap nfc device that also functions as an amiibo emulator. Device shipped with no instructions so i had to search online but basically you chose the amiibo from the database, generate a random tag, and then the amiibo can be used. It took a few tries but it did work, so the device ships with all the amiibos grouped by game, it’s possible to search using the scroll wheel, you can favourite the amiibos. What’s not clear is when you’ve registered an amiibo already, so you might generate a new tag and lose the one you already registered. I need to explore the device further as there’s lots of functionality. Recommended but not user friendly.
